Feeling Inspired

I just got home from speaking at a new mama’s group at my favorite yoga studio, Blooma.  This was the 5th time I’ve had the opportunity to speak about traveling with kids and I love it more every time!  I jump at the chance to talk to new moms because I want to promote traveling with wee ones right away!  Now that I have a toddler, it makes me appreciate the new baby traveling even more!  I also love hearing about all the adventures families are planning and that alone is inspiring.  One mom was getting ready to take her son to Spain to introduce him to her family. Another was getting ready for a 2 hour solo road trip with her little one.  Both types of trips can be equally stressful.  My favorite advice to give for any situation is to be flexible.  I can almost guarantee the trip will go much easier then the worst case scenario we all come up with in our heads.  And if it goes terrible, you will laugh about it later.  I recently had a road trip experience that ended with a poop trail down the hallway of our hotel.  Mack’s diaper had exploded and I didn’t realize it until we had walked to our room and back to the front door.  My mom took charge of cleaning the trail and car seat while I had the short end of the stick cleaning the boy.  As terrible as it was, it made for a great story! So get out there and introduce your little one to the world and create your own adventures!  Go forth and conquer Mamas!

  1. Hey! I spoke with you at Blooma a few weeks ago about taking my 6 mo old home to Hawaii for Xmas. We booked a layover (6 mo ago) through LAX because it’s a shorter flight. I just got an email notifying us that our flight is changed and now the layover is in ATLANTA!! This is really stressing me out. Has this ever happened to you?

    • Hi! I’ve definitely ended up with unplanned layovers but usually super last minute. ATL to HNL is such a huge change from LAX! Have you called to ask if you have any other options? Maybe going through SEA? What airline are you flying? They should offer you a chance to change your layover since you’re no longer on the original route at the airlines fault. If it can’t be changed, don’t worry! If you can, try to give your peanut some floor time while you’re on your ATL layover and let her get out some energy. If possible, hold off feeding until the plane pushes back from the gate. Hopefully, sleep will soon wash over her. It’s a 10 hr flight so be prepared to walk the aisles a bit. That’s always a good distraction for baby to look at new faces! I like to pack a board book, a soft squishy book and a couple teethers for my youngest. Bring a couple spare outfits and extra diapers. I would also ask if the bulkhead row has a bassinet. If so, see if they’ll give you those seats. If not, try and get a row with an open seat which may mean the very last row but the extra space would be worth it! Here’s your worst case scenario: baby cries entire flight, has multiple blowouts and you run out of outfits. If that happens, its not the end of the world. You may end up with a couple gray hairs and in desperate need of a stiff drink, but you’ll make it through and have a great story for years to come. You got this mama! Please keep me posted and let me know if I can answer any more questions!
