Its been sooooo long since I’ve written anything but I felt this was definitely blog worthy! The boys have always been great travelers and I’ve never been against bribing them with snacks and shows. Yes they whine and cry but this last trip was on a whole new level. I was that parent with the screaming, fit pitching kid not once but three separate times! We were flying back from Charleston, WV visiting my in-laws and our flight was several hours delayed. Charleston is super small so there’s not a ton of food options. By the time we boarded the plane we were all hangry and tired. My husband was traveling with me this time thank god! We let our oldest, Mack, have my phone to watch youtube kids. After another 1.5 hour delay sitting on the airplane it was finally time to put our phones in airplane mode. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Mack lost his shit!! My 4 year old started yelling and flailing about in the back of a tiny commuter airplane. There was no calming him down until he cried himself to sleep. I thought that would be the end of it after a good nap. Boy was I wrong. I had the audacity of telling Mack it was time to get off of the airplane. He lost it again! Not only did he yell and cry, he buckled himself back up and refused to move. For the first time ever I had to haul my child kicking and screaming off the airplane. Things were falling out of my bag and the kind pilot gathered them and followed me off. Mike had already gone ahead with our youngest which still left me to grab the stroller and walk the jetway with the falling apart child. After a little bit more of a meltdown in the terminal he finally got his act together and acted like nothing happened. Needless to say I was ready for a large glass of wine! We had one last shit show at the end of our flight from Atlanta to Sacramento. It was so bad I threatened to never take him on a trip again! Obviously that would never happen because as I type we’re getting ready to head to Australia tomorrow. He doesn’t need to know that though! Our 14 hour flight back will be my longest solo flight yet with the boys so here’s hoping the meltdowns are out of the way!
Good luck to all of you parents traveling with a kid who has reached the end of their rope! It’s rough but still worth traveling with your kids and taking them on epic adventures!!
